How to Choose the Perfect Corian® Colour for Your Bathroom

As you’ll be well aware, if you’ve been keeping your eye on the latest predictions for interior design trends of 2020, colour Corian® is set to have a huge impact on the market.

Corian®, in general, has been reaching peak exposure in the interiors and style press over the past few years for its durability and sheer luxuriousness. Now, as people start to look beyond the stunning and ever-popular Glacier White for new inspirations, DuPont™ has issued a whole new palette of amazing new Corian® colours that offer a myriad of amazing design possibilities.

But how to choose the right combination for your new bathroom? Well…

Are you more neo-classicist, minimalist or futurist?

When remodelling in Corian®, you’ve got to know what style you’re going for. It’s a versatile material and will slot as perfectly into the most opulent neo-classicist, art deco or art nouveau bathroom as it will into a starkly minimalist, Mid-Century Modern, or visionary futurist bathroom.

That’s because the colour palette is just so broad. There are a multitude of whites and paler colours drawn from nature that will fit any period style you attempt to replicate. If you choose to go modernist, there are colours like Imperial Yellow and Hot red that will give your bathroom that bold, DeStijl edge. Or those futurists among you may choose strange combinations such as the astral Cosmos Prima for your washbasin with a bold, statement Mint Ice for your tub as an attention-grabbing offset.

Are you bold enough?

Truth is, some people just aren’t ready for colour in their bathroom. Some people take a lot of convincing to do something they consider to be so ‘different.’ And then, when they do, they immediately regret it and wish they’d just stuck with something more mainstream. And that’s fine. The new Corian® colours cater to the subtler interior designers among us, as well as the wild and free.

Some of us, though, will read this question and see it as a challenge. “Let me show you how bold I am,” they’ll say. And, guess what… we can’t wait to see how far you’ll take your bathroom design. We want to see basins in Hot red next to bathtubs in Mineral blue-grey. In the right space, they will just be astonishing statement pieces that give the bathroom contemporary artistic flair and life.

Do you have enough space not to let the colour take over?

This is a serious consideration. If you have a very small bathroom, it’s very likely that a bold statement colour of Corian® is going to just be an assault on the senses. If you are working in a smaller space, it’s probably going to be much more stylish and luxurious looking if you choose a colour with a more natural look.

It doesn’t matter if you go brighter or darker. What counts is that the space has the feeling of being welcoming. With Corian® colours like Matterhorn, Dusk or Witch Hazel, you can create an opulent effect even in the most diminutive of spaces.

Choice isn’t just for the daring, you know. Even those who prefer the simpler things in life have to think carefully about tone, texture, light and contrast when decorating their bathrooms. And, when you’re remodelling in Corian®, it’s as exciting choosing from all the various shades of white as it is from any of the more, shall we say ‘audacious’ colours.

Glacier White is far and away the most popular shade but there are brighter ones, too, such as Sparkling White and the textured Whitecap and White Jasmine shades. You can bring in a blueish hue with Designer White or a subtle hint of green with the Salt shade.

How quickly will it date?

Great design does not date. It just becomes collectible, increases in value and gives you options to customise your decoration around it. That’s the truth of the matter. Look at any decade in the last 100 years and, if the architecture and interior design has been done with flair, style and perfectionism, then it tends to have been left well alone, if not recognised as an icon of a particular era of design.

What matters is not the colour of the Corian® but the design and build quality of the bathroom product developed in that colour. And, as long as you choose your products tastefully, you can feel free to pick from any colour on the spectrum.
